‘Mauritius Telugus showing way for Andhras’

"Sanjeeva Narasimha Appadu, Telugu Commentator for All India Radio, Mauritius station and advisor to Mauritius Andhra Mahasabha, has said that Telugu-speaking people in his country are showing way to people in Andhra in implementing Telugu language. Mr. Sanjeeva who attended World Telugu Conference last month at Tirupati was here on Tuesday."

"Speaking to mediapersons at Umar Ali Sha Centre, he said that there was a lot of support from Mauritius government in development of Telugu language like compulsory teaching of Telugu from classes to 1 to 12 standard students daily one hour in the morning and evening. During this two-hour time the teachers would teach Vemana, Sumati Satakam, Chinnaya Suri Grammer and 15th chapter in Bhagavad Geeta and conduct competitions on these subjects. He said that they celebrated all Telugu festivals in traditional way which reflected Telugu culture and heritage."

“It is a matter of pride for us to say that Mauritius government declared holidays on all Telugu festival days including Telugu Ugadi and November 1, AP Formation Day,” Mr. Sanjiva said..
He said that the two Telugu associations in the country were getting Rs.2 lakh from the government annually and all Telugu people would speak only in Telugu when they met each other. He expressed unhappiness over usage of more English in daily usage of Telugu language.
“In each Telugu sentence there will be four English words in this state,” observed Mr. Sanjeeva, whose family migrated to Mauritius during 1837 from Korangi Port to work as sugarcane labour."
