MV Krishna Rao Award to Madini Soma Naidu for promotion of Telugu in Malaysia

Malaysian Telugu Association founder general secretary Madini Soma Naidu was conferred the prestigious Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao Cultural Award for the first time. The award which was introduced in 2007, was a mark to his 81st birth anniversary and it was instituted by the International Telugu Centre (ITC) of Telugu University in association with SK Foundation, a Visakhapatnam-based cultural organisation.

Our talented Srinivasa Rao Mariah, 25, hails from 'Ban Datoh' (Bagan Datoh, Perak) and is the eldest of four siblings. The performer who has brought great entertainment to many events with his songs and dance performances is currently pursuing a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Stamford College. He is also a part-time DJ. Srinivasa started his passion for Telugu songs and performances by performing at various cultural events in his home town. The young lad who juggles his time between studies, performances and Dj-ing enjoys snooker during his leisure time.

"The Government of India is offering scholarships for Malaysian students to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Indian traditional medicine - Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homeopathy (AYUSH).

The High Commission of India in a statement here Tuesday said it welcomed applications from Malaysian nationals who wished to pursue courses in AYUSH for the 2013-14 academic year.

The statement said that 15 places had been allocated for Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Siddha Medicine & Surgery, Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery, Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine & Surgery (BHMS) and Bachelor of Science in Yoga.

Postgraduate courses are M.D Ayurveda, M.D Siddha, M.D. Unani and M.D Homeopathy, and Ph.D in Ayurveda." -Source -Bernama

"Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji Sri Swamiji came to Irving Friday as part of the North America Telugu Society’s two-day conference at the Irving Convention Center. The event ends tonight with a carnival from 7 to 9 p.m. on the balcony of the center.

Irving Mayor Pro Tem Gerald Farris officially welcomed the group Friday afternoon. About 4,000 guests were expected to attend the conference that took over three levels of the center. "HYDERABAD: Telugu films, known for their larger than life portrayals, have now become the driving force for the language's popularity in the virtual space.

A comparison of search volumes of major Indian regional languages on Google Trends from 2004 onwards shows that worldwide search for Telugu comes third, only behind Hindi and Tamil, with a bulk of searches emanating from India. But in the US, home to the largest Indian population outside India, searches for Telugu and Tamil are nearly equal in volume. Telugu ‘bhasha dinostavam' (language day) is celebrated on August 29 to coincide with the birth anniversary of Gidugu Vengata Ramamurthy, who championed the cause of modern Telugu language. Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy Pantulu was a Telugu writer who was known for his stance in spreading the Telugu language in his time.

"The Telugu Language Day coincides with the Birth anniversary of Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy Pantulu. Gidugu like Guruzada Appa Rao and others, advocated the use of spoken Telugu so that the majority of the people could understand it instead of the language that was used by earlier poets and scholars. Previously scholars advocated a language of status which was the bookish language of scholars and poets like Srinatha, Tikkana and Potana, and they looked down upon the colloquial spoken dialect which they considered inferior to the language of the scholars and pundits. But this bookish language was more sanskritized and, as such, could not be understood by the lay people." - Source

Guinness Record had been awarded to Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad as the largest film studio complex in the world, it opened in 1996 and measures 674 hectares (1,666 acres). With 47 sound stages, it has permanent sets ranging from railway stations to temples.

Movie producer D.Rama Naidu holds the Guinness World Record as the most prolific producer with 130 films.

Telugu actor Brahmanandam holds the Guinness World Record for acting in the most number of films in a single language.

Playback singer S. P. Balasubramanyam holds the Guinness World Record of having sung the most number of songs for any male playback singer in the world, with the majority of his songs sung in Telugu.

In 2002, the Guinness Book of Records named Vijaya Nirmala as the female director with most number of films; she made 47 films. In a career spanning approximately two decades, she acted in over 200 films with 25 each in Malayalam and Tamil. She has also produced 15 films.

Sengalrayan Lane in Ipoh was named after Sengarayan Naidu, a Wealthy Contractor in early 1900

Sengarayan Naidu, a wealthy contractor from lpoh, contributed generously towards the Kinta Indian Association (KIA), which remains active till today. Sengarayan contributed much to the local community not just to the Telugus, for which he was honoured. In fact, a road in Ipoh, Lorong Sengalrayan has been named after him. The Sengalrayan Lane is located behind the education department of Ipoh.
