A HISTORY OF TELUGU LITERATURE

Brought to you by Telugu Malaysia

A HISTORY OF TELUGU LITERATURE

BY,  P. CHENCHIAH, M.L. AND RAJA M. BHUJANGA RAO BAHADUR
FOREWORD BY THE HONBLE MR. C R. REDDY, M.A.
VICE CHANCELLOR OF THE ANDHRA UNIVERSITY

EDITORIAL PREFACE

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honourable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report ; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. No section of the population of India can afford to neglect her ancient heritage. The treasures of knowledge, wisdom, and beauty which are contained in her literature, philosophy, art, and regulated life are too precious to be lost. Every citizen of India needs to use them, if he is to be a cultured modern Indian. This is as true of the Christian, the Muslim, the Zoroastrian as of the Hindu. But, while the heritage of India has been largely explored by scholars, and the results of their toil are laid out for us in books, they cannot be said to be really available for the ordinary man. The volumes are in most cases expensive, and are often technical and difficult. Hence this series of cheap books has been planned by a group of Christian men, in order that every educated Indian, whether rich or poor, may be able to find his way into the treasures of India's past. Many Europeans, both in India and elsewhere, will doubtless be glad to use the series. The utmost care is being taken by the General Editors in selecting writers, and in passing manuscripts for the press. To every book two tests are rigidly applied : everything must be scholarly, and everything must be sympathetic. The purpose is to bring the best out of the ancient treasuries, so that it may be known, enjoyed, and used."

Bangladesh Telugus - 'A hidden community of Bangladesh'

Brought to you by Telugu MalaysiaTelugu Malaysia

Telugu Malaysia

"These people impress one as laidback in their colourful attire, rich with vibrant cries and laughter. Passing, one can see that most of the buildings are red brick, essentially one-storey structures and most dating back to the early 1940’s.

On arrival we were warmly greeted and welcomed in one of their homes in a tin-shed house with a big living area where they all gathered, mostly smiling and astonished faces of almost all ages to find out our purpose. Bright saris and lehangas hung from the clotheslines. We were offered steel plates bearing sweets made of brown and white sesame seed mashed with patali gur (jaggery)."  Read More

[Defimedia] 'Art for the dissemination of Telugu culture in Mauritius'

Telugu Malaysia
Famous in the Telugu circle in Mauritius, Mr. Sajiva Narasimha Appadoo is considered as a reference in Telugu culture. Promoting Telugu culture around the island remains his prime objective. He aims to achieve this by generating an interest about it through art.
Head of the Telugu department of the MGI Institute (Flacq), Mr. Appadoo is very culturally versed and is inclined to sharing it. He also contributes two programmes per week to a radio station of Hyderabad via the net. He has sbagged the ‘Golden Muggu Award’ by the government of India, as a reward in recognition for his contribution to propagate Telugu culture in the field of traditional heritage arts in a foreign land.

Rangolis
Rangolis are famous in Mauritius and connote much significance in the Telugu culture. They uphold spiritual, cultural and social aspects. Mr. Appadoo explains that “where the surface of Mother earth becomes the natural canvas and the human hands transformed into the natural brush, marvellous contours, lines, harmonious curves come to dance in ecstasy to the real feast of the eyes in the making of fabulous Rangolis. It is a salutation to Mother Earth. In the making of rangolis everyone should bend the body. It is symbolical in nature to salute Mother Earth.” -Read More

[The HIndu Times] Whither Telugu culture?

Source - The Hindu Times
The Hindu Times, June 21, 2012
"Gone are the rural customs and way of living in our region. It’s not hyperbolic to say that our state has westernised by leaps and bounds compared to the rest of the country. Thanks to the multitudes who have made it to the US either for higher education or employment or both, their homecoming during vacation marked a heady revolution in their homes back in India be it villages, towns or cities. The kith and kin living in the precincts of some remote village in Andhra Pradesh have suddenly found themselves westernising their native dwellings to suit their children abroad." Read More

Satyanarayana Swamy Temple in Visakhapatnam

Brought to you by Telugu Malaysia

"Annavaram is one of the most famous Holy Shrines in India second place after after Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. Satyanarayanaswamy  temple is built in the Dravidian style and the glory and richness of Lord SATYADEVA was widely described in Revakhanda of Skandhapuranam.
The presiding deity Lord Satyadeva with his consort Sri Anantha Lakshmi on one Side and with Lord Siva on the other side took his abode on Ratnagiri, which is named after Ratnakara, son of Meru the king of holy mountains. Like in all Divyakshetrams as surrounded and followed by holy rivers, Sri Satyanarayana Swamy at Annavaram is also followed by sacred Pampa River touching the feet of the hill.
Lord Satyadeva the god of truth is showering his eternal blessings on mankind in his beautiful manifested form of the DIVINE TRINITY namely Hari Hara Hiranya Garbha Thrimurtyatmaka. Hence this is only the temple that is attracting the Pilgrims of both Vishanava and Saiva Hindu religion" . -Source
