Famous in the Telugu circle in Mauritius, Mr. Sajiva Narasimha Appadoo is considered as a reference in Telugu culture. Promoting Telugu culture around the island remains his prime objective. He aims to achieve this by generating an interest about it through art.
Head of the Telugu department of the MGI Institute (Flacq), Mr. Appadoo is very culturally versed and is inclined to sharing it. He also contributes two programmes per week to a radio station of Hyderabad via the net. He has sbagged the ‘Golden Muggu Award’ by the government of India, as a reward in recognition for his contribution to propagate Telugu culture in the field of traditional heritage arts in a foreign land.

Rangolis
Rangolis are famous in Mauritius and connote much significance in the Telugu culture. They uphold spiritual, cultural and social aspects. Mr. Appadoo explains that “where the surface of Mother earth becomes the natural canvas and the human hands transformed into the natural brush, marvellous contours, lines, harmonious curves come to dance in ecstasy to the real feast of the eyes in the making of fabulous Rangolis. Taj Mahal of Visakhapatnam

"The monument which vizagites labeled as "Vizag Taj Mahal", completed 100 years in June, 2007. Most of the Vizagites are not aware of the history of the monument but they all call it as Vizag Taj Mahal. Constructed in soft Lime stone this elegant structure is a fine example of architectural marvel that is very unique and amalgum of architecture from across the globe. 

Known as symbol of love, the Kurupam Monument stands testimony to a wonderful era of the Kurupam royalties. Raja Vairicharla Veerbhadra Raja Bahadur constructed the monument in memory of her beloved wife Princess Lakshmi Narasaiyyamma. The princes and the Raja sahib were married in 1895 and this compounded comprising the monument had beautifully landscaped gardens and water fountain in it.

Telugu Festival in Chicago- July 13, 2013

"A day of cultural and entertainment for Telugu Families, to show unity, celebrate culture and deliver service. Telugu Festival, 5th annual conference hosted by Chicago Telugu Association this weekend brought in 1500 Telugu people in and around Chicago together on one avenue demonstrating celebrating culture and unity, service activities. 

The event held at Copernicus Center, in Chicago from 2 PM to 12.30 AM. The guest list includes Mr. Keeravani, Music Director, Mr. Ravi Madala, President, NATS, Mr. Karunakar Madhavaram, President, ATA, Dr. Ratnam Chitturi, Founder, North South Foundation, and Board of Directors Dr. Chundu Veraiah, Lavu Srinivas and Dr. Vasu Kodali, Tollywood artists Siya, Sathyam Rajesh and mimicry artist Jithendra. Telugu Festival 2013 has started off with the “Brahmanjali” performed by kids and Adigo Alladigo Srihari Vasam, Annamacharya Keertana, Song Oh Nama Sivaiah and others directed by noted Dance Teachers from Chicago. Bhuvana Vijayam program presented by Sri Ram Chitti and team had received huge applause from audience. Navaratri - 1966 Telugu Movie Starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri

Navaratri (Telugu: నవరాత్రి) is a 1966 Telugu Drama film directed by Tatineni Rama Rao and starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri. It was produced by Anumolu Venkata Subba Rao of Prasad Art Pictures. It is a remake of a 1964 Tamil film with the same title, starring Sivaji Ganesan and Savitri. The story is written by A. P. The audio of Pawan Kalyan's forthcoming film Attarintiki Daredi was launched amid fanfare at Shilpa Kala Vedika on Friday, July 14th. The film's cast and crew made their way to the audio release ceremony, which was a grand affair. Devi Sri Prasad, who earlier written musical scores for Jalsa and Gabbar Singh, has provided the soundtrack, which is already getting superb response.

'C. P. Brown, the Savior of Telugu Culture during British Rule'

C. P. Brown (Charles Philip Brown, Telugu: చార్లెస్ ఫిలిప్ బ్రౌన్) (November 10, 1798 – December 12, 1884) was a Telugu writer and an Englishman by descent. He worked as an official in Cuddapah and Rajahmundry during the British rule in India. Native Telugu people call him Brown Dora (Telugu: బ్రౌన్ దొర), which means Lord Brown in English.

Telugu literature was in a dormant phase and declined in 18th century because of various social and political reasons, including lack of creative Telugu poets, prevailing illiteracy and decline of empires, like Vijayanagara Empire, who were patrons of the literature. Brown being an official in the region collected the works, printed them and saved some of the heritage of the Telugu language. In his own words, "Telugu literature was dying out; the flame was flickering in the socket in 1825, I found Telugu literature dead. In 30 years I raised it to life". Source -Wikipedia

    

Telugu is 2,400 Years Old

"The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has joined the Andhra Pradesh Official Languages Commission to say that early forms of the Telugu language and its script indeed existed 2,400 years ago.

D. Jithendra Das, Superintending Archaeologist, ASI, Hyderabad Circle, cited three inscriptions discovered at Bhattiprolu in Guntur district that contained several Telugu roots or words, as “indisputable evidence” in support of the finding. All these inscriptions date back to 400 B.C. He showed magnified pictures of these inscriptions as also charts relating to evolution of Telugu letters since Mauryan times to journalists here on Wednesday. An English translation of one inscription reads: “Gift of the slab by venerable Midikilayakha.”

Dr. Das and A.B.K. Prasad, Official Languages Commission Chairman, explained that Midikilayakha might be an independent Andhra king at that time. Bhattiprolu indicated, without an iota of doubt, the existence of Telugu words even a century before Emperor Ashoka (300 BC). Asked if the ASI would testify its findings before the Union government to secure classical language status to Telugu, Dr. Das said he would do so if asked by the Centre and “not on our own.”

Telugu language was found more refined in the inscriptions found at Kantamnenivarigudem, Guntupalli in West Godavari district, and Gummadidurru and Ghantasala in Krishna district." -Source - The Hindu

Simhachalam Temple in Vizag

The Historic Temple at the Simhachalam, built in the 11th Century, where the Lord Varaha Narasimha Swami's temple is located, resembles the rich cultural heritage Visakhapatnam holds. Located on the Hill top, at a height of 244 mts, popularly called the Hill of the Lion Lord, is the temple of Lord Vishnu in the avatara of Sri Narasimha Swami varu. This great temple built in the 11th century by the King Sri Krishnadevarayam, is one of its kind in the country. Inscriptions on the temple date back to 1098 AD.- Source

The deity at Simhachalam, the lion-man incarnation of Lord Mahavishnu is usually covered with sandalwood paste. The original shape of the deity in the tribhanga posture has two hands with the head of a lion on a human torso. An inscription dated as far back as 1098 AD of the Chola king Kuloththunga provides some clue as to its antiquity. Another inscription shows a Queen of the Eastern Ganga of Kalinga(ancient Orissa) (1137-56 AD) covering the image with gold while a third inscription says the eastern Ganga King of Orissa Narasimha Deva built the main/central shrine in 1267 A.D. With more than 252 inscriptions in Oriya and Telugu describing the antecedents of the temple, it is a historically important monument.

Sri Krishna Deva Raya after defeating the Gajapati ruler of Orissa Gajapati Prataparudra Dev visited the shrine twice in 1516 AD and 1519 AD and offered numerous villages for maintenance of bhogam (worship) along with valuable jewellery of which an emerald necklace is still in the temple. For the last three centuries the Royal family of Vizianagaram, ” The Pusapati Gajapathi’s” have been the temple’s trustees. -Source

MV Krishna Rao Award to Madini Soma Naidu for promotion of Telugu in Malaysia

Malaysian Telugu Association founder general secretary Madini Soma Naidu was conferred the prestigious Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao Cultural Award for the first time. The award which was introduced in 2007, was a mark to his 81st birth anniversary and it was instituted by the International Telugu Centre (ITC) of Telugu University in association with SK Foundation, a Visakhapatnam-based cultural organisation.
